International Day of Person with Disabilities Event: ‘What is an Accessible City?’

Belfast City Council, in partnership with Employers for Disability NI, is organising an event to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The theme for this event is ‘What is an Accessible City?’ and focuses on building a more accessible world for people with disabilities.

Date: Tuesday 3rd December 2019

Time: 10.00am to 1pm with lunch

Venue: City Hall, Belfast

Cost: free

Participants will hear from Steven Mifsud, Access Consultant (NRAC) and Managing Director at Direct Access. Steven is profoundly deaf and founded Direct Access in 2004. He was named as one of the top 100 most influential disabled people in the UK for 2019 by the Shaw Trust Power 100. More information on Steven can be found at https://disabilitypower100.com/

Two disabled people will also speak about the challenges they face in the environment and how they have been supported in the workplace.  The council will launch its Disability Action Plan and a very brief Employers for Disability NI Annual General Meeting will follow the event which will finish by 2.15pm.

This is sure to be a very interesting and informative event and I would ask you to circulate this invitation email throughout your organisation to encourage as many to attend as possible.  To book, please email stewartpaul@belfastcity.gov.uk by Friday 15th November 2019.
