Attitudes towards people with mental health disabilities improving

Public attitudes towards people with mental health disabilities is improving, with half as many people having negative attitudes in the 2018 Equality Commission for NI’s attitudes survey (approximately 10%) as in the 2011 survey.  This is very encouraging but there is still some way to go to challenge prejudicial and stereotypical viewpoints held by this minority section of NI society.  Employers can play their part by ensuring staff undergo “Disability Positive” and Mental Health Awareness training as well as by promoting positive role models, especially those within their own workforces.  Read Equality Commission for NI press release
